Fillums

Some ideas of film evenings – prompted by my watching of the new version of Solaris yesterday (not the Tarkovsky version, which I started watching but got bored of during the neverending 15 minutes of driving into Moscow – I stopped it to go and get some lunch and never pressed play again):
1) Brad Pitt [...]

Cooking Experiments Part 2

Part 2 – Baklava
Hmm. Sweets.
Ingredients for the pastries:
400g pack of filo pastry
Lots of melted butter
500g of nuts (mix of pistachios, walnuts and pine nuts – make sure they’re chopped finely. I did a 100/200/200 mix)
4 tbsp honey
2 tbsp lemon juice
Zest of 1 lemon.
Preheat your oven to 200degC.
Get an inch or so deep straight sided tray [...]

Cooking Experiment Parts 1

So, coming into my week of holiday I have decided to do some cooking. So, here’s the beginning.

Thankyou london.food mailing list. So:

2 or 3 cloves garlic
1 red chilli
1 tin chopped tomatoes
1 [...]

Par-tay

My photos of adamNbeth’s (aca, easterbunny) rocky horror party can be found here.
BE WARNED – there are photos to scare the weak minded among you…and photos so attemptedly arty in nature that you may run screaming.
This one of some scary dancing.
This portrait of Mr Jarman.
I think that pretty much covers the spectrum. Please excuse the [...]

On Desks

I work. I have a desk at work. On my desk I put things.
Oh! What things do I place upon my desk.
Unfortunately things do not always stay exactly where I put them, and over time the things slip, slide, pile up and hide the things which are hiding the things underneath those things. And so [...]

Is posting a mail containing the phrase “I have some ideas, but I can’t share them on a publically archived mailing list” to a publically archived mailing list silly and potentially worse than posting your solution in the first place?

Now I Have a Machine Gun…

7 years ago I embarked on the life of a professional student, paid a crappy salary by the government (or a grant as some would call it – I wasn’t eligible for the dole, so I would call it salary. Students today? They don’t get a grant or unemployment benefits – hah! sucks to be [...]

Bill is a cool name

Hot. Damn.
Today was a day of joy and presents.
I took the day off from work, so as to be able to spend it goading adam into buying more and more expensive guitars and to force steveFromWork into buying a telly large enough to land a helicopter on.
So, after a breakfast at the 12 bar we [...]

Damn people who make me miss Stephen Fry readings by cancelling photo classes without warning
Damn people who publish that the release date for Kill Bill is this friday, a day when I am off work and wandering around the west end with nothing to do but play too-expensive guitars and eat as much sushi as [...]

Hmm. An experiment – writing on LJ. Anyway, braindump.
Shops
I did stuff today. First I woke up, realising that whatever I ate the previous evening, it was not classed as “good spicy fried chicken”. A longer than normal due to broken tubes journey into work was followed by too much coffee. My normal lethargy was banished [...]
